Adult Formation

Our intern, Peter Hartwig, will lead “Faith Talk with Friends” for the next four weeks.

Overview

We will explore the marvelous writing of a living theologian within our Episcopal tradition: the Reverend Mother Katherine Sonderegger. “Kate,” as she is affectionately known, is a brilliant and unique writer. Her words ring with an overflowing praise. Her insights are profound. Her way of thinking about God is captivating.

She has taught at Virginia Theological Seminary since 2002 and holds several degrees: a Ph.D. from Brown University, an M.Divinity from Yale University, the STM Theology from Yale University, and an A.B. in Medieval Studies from Smith College.

We will be looking at a very small selection of passages (no more than three paragraphs per week, I promise) from her beautifully written and unoriginally titled book Systematic Theology Volume 1. I hope, as we read what the Reverend Professor Sonderegger has written, that we will come not only to appreciate her as a gift to God’s church, but also find ourselves filled with joy alongside her “thinking the thought of God and worshiping the Reality who is God.”
