Meditation: Abundance

The first idea that comes to mind when I contemplate the word “abundance” is “plenty”—as in, plenty of material comforts. They occupy a surprising number of my thoughts and motivations! Moving beyond the personal, a look out my window reminds me that nature itself is abundant in all its forms. Rain, sun, clay, bugs, weeds…all abound and make possible life here on Earth.

But, I remind myself (as often as I can remember to!), the most bounteous of all is God’s infinite love for God’s human creations. No matter whether my physical needs are great or small, I am bathed in the love God rains down at every moment of every day, forever and ever, Amen.

“We love because he first loved us.” —1 John 4:19 of the New Revised Standard Version
